Learn more about SBS-modified bitumen

In the 1960s, Siplast had an SBS/bitumen breakthrough in commercial roofing technology. By modifying bitumen (asphalt) with styrene-butadiene-styrene polymer (SBS), the resulting roofing products offered better elongation, recovery, and durability properties compared to other asphaltic roofing technologies.

SBS-modified bitumen FAQs

One of the advantages of SBS roofing is the variety of installation methods that be used. It can be cold applied, torch applied, hot asphalt applied, self adhered, or mechanically attached.
Benefits of SBS products include the longevity of a multi-ply system, flexibility, durability, extreme weather resistance, variety of application methods, and less maintenance required over the roof’s service life.
SBS-modified bitumen roofing products are suitable for many climates, due to its flexibility across a wide range of temperatures. SBS polymers give the blend rubber-like, elastic properties that allow it to flex as the roof expands and contracts during daily or seasonal temperature cycles.
A roof with SBS materials can last up to 20 to 30 years, or more, with proper installation and regular maintenance.
