Challenge
The existing coal tar pitch roof on this 75-year-old Detroit Diesel engine manufacturing facility was past its useful service life. During reroofing, plant activities including installation of new production equipment had to continue. Aligning with Detroit Diesel’s history of innovation in environmental automotive technology, they wanted a solution that would help meet goals for pollution reduction.
Solution
- A two-ply Paradiene 20/30 Roof Membrane System was chosen as a strong, conservatively designed way to protect the plant and its valuable equipment from water intrusion The membrane features an
- Eco-Activ® cap sheet surfaced with Noxite® granules, which neutralize harmful NOx molecules in the air to help improve air quality
- The application used Siplast’s PA-311 Cold Adhesive to create a tenacious interply bond that avoided the use of open flames and asphalt fumes for plant workers during installation
